Apulia
Apulia (Italy), a land of a thousand faces, never the same.
"Le Puglie": how still today are traditionally called the many microcosms in which its extraordinarily complex identity dissolves.
A religion stretched on the sea, mostly flat, poor of superficial waters, but soaked in it’s wombs and full of carsic phenomenon formations. Tormented landscapes made of limestone, red soil, monumental trees, dry beds of ancient rivers and cultivated vast plains.
In Apulia (Italy) for the first time it’s a challenge, more than an illustrious traveler from the past. Who has been dazed, disoriented, almost annoyed by the inability to grasp it all together, like an open book. More than a traveler (who was famous or not) there has been or could not help coming back, enchanted by the landscape, history, art, men. And by the fascinating sensation offered by the feeling, of being at the border between two worlds, having one foot in Europe and one in the Orient, looking towards the future and embracing the past.
Knowing and understanding Apulia (Italy)? It takes time even for those who have planted their roots, you need a slow and ancestral pace typically Mediterranean, but also the speed of the Levantine. We must follow it, ride its streets, go down to its belly, and climb back up to its ridges.
Apulia plain? A legend. It’s explained by the environmental features and the "sub-regions" around which are concentrated indisputable historical and cultural homogeneity: Capitanata and Gargano, Land of Bari, Murge, Salento and the Itria Valley, not mere geographical expression, but pieces of a fascinating mosaic composition to which has contributed the history and the mixture of different civilizations.
A mosaic of sand and rock, mountain rich of vegetation and wheat fields, orchards and olive groves as far as the eye could see, rocky hills, calm lakes and underground cavities, marked, shaped and changed by man, who over the centuries has made it fertile and opulent - without leaving empty spaces - a land which is likely to perennial thirst, erecting dolmens and menhirs, castles and cathedrals, abbeys and shrines, museums and palaces, villas and farms, towers and Trulli.
Today, those who choose Apulia (Italy) will find all this and much more, because Apulia is a land of art, culture, colors, traditions and tastes for all seasons.
